Whenever she wants (which is mostly always :)), my daughter jumps into the kitchen to cook together. So, this time she wanted to make puff pastry hot dogs herself. They are simple and quick to make, children love them.
Puff pastry is great fun, both for children and for us, big kids. So many combinations of flavors and shapes can be made. I couldn’t decide whether I prefer sweet or savory puff pastry bites.
As for today’s snack, I always cook the hot dogs first. I divided 5 hot dogs in half for 10 pieces. Nicely roll out puff pastry into a rectangle with a rolling pin. Cut it into 10 strips. Then dress each hot dog like a newborn.
Arrange them in a tray on baking paper, coat them with beaten egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 20-30 minutes at 180 degrees until they are nicely browned. And by the time you’ve prepared a cup of yogurt or milk, they’re ready.
Both the child and I had fun. They are prettier and tastier than those from the bakery.
